1 in 20 people in the general public are affected by a sensory processing disorder. Loud noise can lead to sensory overload for these individuals. Communal spaces, such as a kitchen or an entryway, can easily be overcome with noise daily.
15% of Americans over the age of 18 report some trouble hearing. Unnecessary background noise often makes it harder for these individuals to hear what they need to.
Current solutions to this noise issue include sound panels in many forms. All forms are clearly for noise control and often disrupt the visual aesthetic of the room.
This design approaches the issue by disguising the sound-absorbing material as a backing to a light fixture made of layered acrylic diffusing pieces.
The goal of this product is to minimize the extra noise in conversational settings without standing out.
The light fixture has proven to be effective in minimizing noise that echoes around a room. The test resulted in a 23% decrease in decibels recorded when the chandelier was present as compared to when it was not.
